How many persons have contact with the police in a given year? During 2018, an estimated 61.5 million U.S. residents age 16 or older, or 24% of the population, had one or more contacts with police. This includes calling to report a crime, being stopped in a moving vehicle, or being approached by an officer in a public place (street stop). |
